Recreation Rodeo comes to White Horse Village in celebration of Active Aging Week®

Started by the International Council on Active Aging (ICAA) in 2003, Active Aging Week® has grown into a global movement. In 2018, events took place in Australia, Canada, India, Romania, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the United States. Providing opportunities to engage with others and explore new activities, Active Aging Week encourages older adults to maximize and enjoy their later years. This year’s theme for AAW, “Redefining Active,” celebrated aging and inspired “whole person” wellness.
In honor of Active Aging Week, White Horse Village (WHV) held a Recreation Rodeo ending with a Country Carnival.
The Recreation Rodeo featured eight different sports/activities: billiards, bocce, brain games, croquet, golf putting, ping-pong, shuffleboard, and Wii bowling. Each day (beginning Monday, September 30th and ending Thursday, October 3rd) residents participated in two sports/activities, one played in the morning and one played in the afternoon. Promoted as a social/fun event, the Rodeo gave residents a chance to engage in something new with someone new! Those not wanting to compete, participated by volunteering or cheering on friends old and new. Residents who are new to the community, as well as those who have never played, were encouraged to sign-up and try one of WHV’s recreational activities. All first-time players were guaranteed to play! Winning contestants received a champion tee shirt with the new WHV logo and screen print saying: “This Ain’t My First Rodeo!”
The week concluded on Friday with a Country Carnival that proved to be fun for all. As always, The Wellness Team at White Horse Village has proven that wellness that is “fun, safe and purposeful” expands life’s possibilities!
